Privacy Policy

GarageBinder ("the app") is built by Plainworks. The short version: your maintenance records stay on your iPhone. There is no GarageBinder account, no advertising tracking, and no cross-app profile.

What the App Stores

GarageBinder stores everything you enter on your device using Apple's on-device storage:

• Vehicle profiles — nicknames, make/model/year, VIN if you choose to add it
• Service, fuel, and mileage records — dates, odometer, costs, notes
• Receipt photos — any images you attach to a record
• Reminders — date- or mileage-based service reminders you create
• App preferences — units (miles/km, gallons/liters), currency, theme

iCloud Sync (Optional)

iCloud Sync is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, your garage syncs across your devices using Apple's CloudKit in your private iCloud container. Your data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data and we never see it.

Analytics and Crash Diagnostics

GarageBinder may send anonymous app usage events to PostHog and crash/error diagnostics to Sentry so we can understand reliability and improve the app. These events are limited to metadata such as app opens, selected tabs, record/reminder/export actions, formats, categories, counts, and error context.

We do not send vehicle names, VINs, license plates, notes, receipt photos, backup files, export contents, location, contacts, or photo library contents to PostHog or Sentry. Analytics are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

What We Do NOT Collect

• No GarageBinder account — we don't ask you to sign up or sign in
• No vehicle names, VINs, plates, notes, receipt photos, backups, or export contents
• No advertising trackers or cross-app profiles
• No location, contacts, or photo library access (you pick which photos to attach)
• No data sent to any Plainworks-operated server

Backups and Exports

The app can produce JSON backups, PDF service histories, and CSV exports. These files are created only when you ask for them, and they are saved locally or shared through the system share sheet. We never see them.

iCloud Device Backup

By default, your GarageBinder data is included in your iPhone's iCloud Backup (if you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings). This backup is encrypted by Apple and is not visible to us.

Push Notifications

If you create reminders, GarageBinder schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are scheduled entirely on your phone — nothing is sent to a server.

Children's Privacy

GarageBinder is intended for adult vehicle owners. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Data Deletion

To delete your data, delete the app. If you used iCloud Sync, you can also remove the GarageBinder data from iCloud through iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
